Pioneering operation on paralyzed panda


Kang Kang, a paralytic panda, recovers its consciousness after operation at the Xijing Hospital affiliated to the No. 4 Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, on April 14, 2005. Four orthopedists, three anaesthetists and two nurses spent about three hours on Thursday to finish the operation on Kang Kang, who suffered from fractures in the thoracic vertebra and cataract. It is the world's first ever operation on a paralytic panda. The operation was successful, according to a leading surgeon.
