Stuttgart, Wolong (dpo) - Yesterday, in a spectacular rescue operation, PETA activists stunned the well-known German panda Cro (27) and flew them out to a reserve in the Chinese province of Sichuan. In the Wolong Nature Reserve, the animal can finally lead a species-appropriate life. Pandas have been on the red list of endangered species for years.
"A panda like Cro belongs in the subtropical mountains and not on the stage" explains PETA activist Jörg Beuß. "We could no longer watch as this majestic creature was performed on behalf of the music industry for the entertainment of the audience" A total of two years Cros rescue planned meticulously.
A subsequent veterinary examination brought frightening things to light: "We were shocked at how emaciated he was for a Great Panda," said Beuß. "Only skin and bones." Apart from a few places, the animal had run out of coat all over his body. Even after sharp claws one searched in vain. "In the teeth were missing ten of the normally 42 teeth," reports Beuß. "I've never seen such a malnourished and underdeveloped panda, you just do not want to imagine what he had to go through."
After the investigation, Cro was provided with a GPS transmitter and flown out to China. There, the team transported him by helicopter to the Wolong Nature Reserve, where everything was already prepared for his arrival.
"At the moment he still makes a confused impression," reports Jörg Beuß. "It will take time for him to get used to his natural habitat." After all, he had already gnawed a bit of bamboo after initial hesitation.
The animal rights activists are confident that the bear will soon have enough strength to mate with one of the panda females in the reserve and to father the boy.
